The Project

Cinema plays a fundamental role in shaping our identities and values. It is our duty to use this powerful tool to promote gender equality and create a fairer society.

The Film&Parità Project, conceived by the Regional Equality Councilor Francesca Torelli, was launched during the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival in 2023, and today it is in its second edition

The first edition involved only people already engaged in Equal Opportunities, while this edition aims to involve the entire audience of the exhibition and seeks to verify whether and to what extent films create that cultural substrate that allows a society to deconstruct stereotypes and promote a culture of equality in which people are considered for who they are and not for the group they belong to.

To understand the scope of this process, thanks to the analysis conducted during the first edition, an anonymous questionnaire (linked at the bottom of the page) has been prepared for the entire audience of the Film Festival, allowing them to share their thoughts on each of the movies viewed. The questionnaire consists of about twenty questions, designed to fit any film and storyline, and will remain accessible beyond the end of the event until mid-month. During the days of the Festival, it will also be possible to see the scores assigned to the films being evaluated by the audience.

It is important to emphasize that although the focus of the project is on gender, and it could not be otherwise given the specific area of expertise of the Equality Councilor, promoting behavioral mechanisms that lead to equality between men and women also contributes to reducing the impact on society and individuals of all potentially discriminatory factors.

In conjunction with the Film Festival, an event is scheduled to take place on September 6 at 5:00 PM in the stand provided by the Veneto Region within the Excelsior Hotel on the Lido of Venice. It will be an opportunity to illustrate the main results of the ongoing survey and to engage in dialogue with some guests.

During the event, the unpublished short film "Ginger~Fred," created specifically for this project by R. Legnaro, G. Bortolatto, Y. Kalachikhina, A. Barbazza, A. Cracco, and E. Cavallin, will be screened under the guidance of Dr. L. Pili and Professor M. R. Novielli (Ca' Foscari University). The short film will demonstrate how two different perspectives can blend together and create a complete product.

The project does not end with the Exhibition because the questionnaire will remain accessible until mid-September. Throughout the autumn, the evaluation sheets for the films will be released, and finally, in October, a report with all the results will be published on this site as well as on the Councilor's social media.
The initiative aims to raise awareness within the film industry about the contribution that this art can make to the promotion of Equal Opportunities.
